Dr. Peter Gunther

Meet Peter Gunther, OD

Peter Gunther is a Board-certified optometrist and a native of the Chicago area. He is a career Naval Officer with over twenty years of experience in military medicine. After retiring from the Navy in 2018 he returned to the Chicagoland area to be closer to his family. Dr. Gunther earned his bachelo's and master’s degrees from Western Illinois University. He went on to attend optometry school at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He then completed his residency training at the James H Quillen VA Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. After residency, he attained his fellowship at the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Gunther has conducted research throughout his career and published papers in several academic journals including the Journal of the American Optometric Association.

Dr. Gunther is a member of several professional organizations including the American Optometric Association, the American Academy of Optometry, and the Armed Forces Optometric Association.

Dr. Gunther is married to Jenifer Gunther MD and together they have six children. In his free time, Dr. Gunther enjoys fishing, woodworking, and traveling.

"I CAN SEE AGAIN !! This is the first review I have ever written, but very well deserving. Excellent care from the receptionists to the technicians to obviously the doctors. The receptionists were very accommodating in scheduling appointments. The technicians explained what each test determined, while the doctor determined and implemented the correct action. Cataract surgery was successful, pain free, and stress free as I was sedated. Results were back to 20/20 vision. I would highly recommend Kirk Eye Center."
