What is BOTOX?

Diminishing the initial visible effects of repetitive facial expressions on the forehead is easy and effective with BOTOX injectable treatments. BOTOX is a filtered strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily eases the contractions of the muscles used to make particular expressions of the upper brow region. The creases created from these constant muscle contractions are called “dynamic” because they are the result of muscle movement. After a certain age, these expression creases stay visible, even if the muscles are all the way at rest. BOTOX injectable treatments can dramatically smooth the depth of these wrinkles and may even be able to prevent future lines from forming. The team of ocular specialists at Kirk Eye Center is pleased to offer BOTOX injections for patients in both River Forest and Gurnee, IL.

What are the benefits of getting BOTOX?

Receiving BOTOX® treatment for your eye/forehead areas has many medical and aesthetic benefits, including:

  • Decrease in puffy and saggy appearance of skin surrounding eye, forehead, and temple areas
  • Customized treatment plan to help you both look and feel better
  • Treatment of existing wrinkles while also preventing future wrinkles from setting in
  • Non-surgical option for addressing fine lines and skin settling in the eyelids and surrounding areas

Am I A Candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX is used for patients who want to nonsurgically smooth the appearance of dynamic lines on their faces. BOTOX is also used as a preventive treatment, even if you do not show signs of aging. It is a great nonsurgical treatment if you are frustrated by forehead lines or frown lines between the brows. It's also a solution for Crow's feet around the eyes. After evaluating your amount of skin elasticity and cosmetic concerns, Dr. Kirk will discuss whether BOTOX injections would work well for you.

What to Expect During BOTOX Treatment

BOTOX treatments are available as an outpatient procedure right at Kirk Eye Center. If it is your first time visiting us for BOTOX, we often perform the treatment within the same day as your initial consultation with us. BOTOX is most commonly administered between the brows, around the eyes (Crow's feet), and across the forehead. The face will be cleaned, and BOTOX will be applied using a fine needle. BOTOX treatments typically take about 10 – 15 minutes.

What to Expect After BOTOX Injections

After your injections, you can get back to your normal routine, although strenuous exercise should be postponed for at least 24 hours. The injected sections of your face may be slightly red, bruised, or swollen for a few days, but you should not experience any lasting or serious side effects. In many cases, it generally takes around 5 – 7 days before the full results of BOTOX are visible, and results generally last 3 – 4 months.

BOTOX FAQ

Do BOTOX injections hurt?

No, most patients do not find their BOTOX treatments painful or even uncomfortable. The needles used to inject BOTOX are very fine and much smaller than the needles used to give vaccinations and other injections.

How quickly will I see my BOTOX results?

In general, most patients should see results in about 5 – 7 days. The full, final results may take up to two weeks to be seen.

How long does BOTOX last?

Most patients can expect their BOTOX results to last up to four months before a maintenance procedure may be recommended.

How many BOTOX injections/units will I need?

The number of BOTOX treatments provided will vary according to individual concerns and the extent of your facial wrinkles and lines. During your consultation, we will determine the appropriate quantity of BOTOX injections according to your desired cosmetic goals and whether you wish to address the Crow's feet, forehead, or between the eyes. To keep up with your aesthetic outcomes, we might suggest scheduling BOTOX injections every 3 – 4 months at Kirk Eye Center.

Are there other comparable aesthetic injections?

BOTOX is a certain type of wrinkle reducer that thrives among a myriad of other comparable brands, including Jeuveau™, Dysport®, and XEOMIN®. All of these wrinkle-reducing solutions consist of type A botulinum toxin; however, each is created uniquely to meet particular challenges.

What is the difference between dermal fillers and wrinkle reducers?

Although wrinkle reducers, such as BOTOX Cosmetic, are utilized to minimize facial lines by temporarily freezing your muscle movements, dermal fillers are a distinct category of cosmetic formulations that increase facial volume. Fillers are designed to plump sunken features and fill in static wrinkles.
