The Long Term Effects of Drooping Eyelids

Featured Image

Drooping eyelids (blepharoptosis) can produce a sleepy, disinterested, and lazy appearance. Impacting one or both eyes, this condition obscures vision by partially lidding the pupil, which is problem enough in itself, but in compensation, many people tilt their heads to look off the bridge of their noses or arch an eyebrow in an attempt to lift the eyelid. Both of these things can lead to tension headaches.

Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a safe and effective way to address drooping eyelids. With this procedure, excess skin and fat are removed to allow the lids to rest in a more youthful and alert position. This clears physical obstructions to vision and eliminates the need to crane the neck or create tension in the forehead, helping to alleviate related headaches.

Lower eyelid surgery does not serve any functional purposes, but it can help to restore a youthful and well-rested appearance to the eyes. Lower blepharoplasty addresses puffy skin and dark circles underneath the eyes and restores a smooth and attractive appearance to the surrounding area.

Upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery are often combined for maximum effect. During your initial consultation, we will listen to your concerns and assess your needs to help you determine the best option.

Cosmetic Treatments At Kirk Eye Center

In addition to blepharoplasty, we offer BOTOX® Cosmetic. This treatment can be used to eliminate crow’s feet (the lines at the corner of your eye) making it very complementary to eyelid surgery.

In addition to crow’s feet, BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used to treat frown lines (wrinkles in between the eyebrows) and forehead creases. It can also be used to provide a gentle forehead lift, which may assist in rising droopy eyebrows, an issue that blepharoplasty does not address.
