Best Candidates for Eyeglasses and Contact Lenses

As soon as we’ve finished a complete eye evaluation, we will determine whether contact lenses or eyeglasses are the appropriate treatment for your vision needs. For some adults and teens, contacts are the most convenient option to get clear vision. A few of the most familiar types of lenses we provide include daily wear, single-use, multifocal, and HD contact lenses. For those who might not be prepared to wear contact lenses, prescription eyeglasses boast a number of advantages, including the potential to filter harmful blue light.

What To Expect During Your Fitting

At Kirk Eye Center, we proudly direct a great deal of time and attention to ensuring you end up with the ideal pair of glasses or the best contact lens fit and type. Yes, there are specialized contact lenses called toric lenses designed for people with astigmatism. These lenses have different prescriptions in different parts of the lens to correct the uneven curvature of the cornea. Advances in contact lens technology have made toric lenses more comfortable and effective, allowing many people with astigmatism to enjoy the benefits of contact lenses.

To extend the life of your eyeglasses, always store them in a protective case when not in use and avoid placing them lens-down on surfaces. Clean your glasses regularly using a microfiber cloth and a cleaning solution designed for lenses. Avoid using harsh household cleaners or paper towels, which can scratch the lenses. Regular maintenance, like tightening screws and adjusting the fit, can also help keep your glasses in good condition.

For those with presbyopia, there are several options, including bifocal or multifocal eyeglasses and contact lenses. Bifocal lenses have two distinct optical powers, while multifocal lenses provide a gradual transition between different powers. Multifocal contact lenses are also available in both soft and rigid gas-permeable materials, offering convenience and clear vision at multiple distances.

Follow-Up

The majority of patients shouldn’t need to schedule a follow-up visit if they just opted for glasses. For those who receive contacts, we may ask for a follow-up in 1 – 2 months to ensure that the contacts are comfortable and are improving acuity appropriately. Please note, however, that these appointments never take the place of regular comprehensive eye exams, which should happen at least every two years.
