What is the Light Adjustable Lens?
During cataract surgery, an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted into your eye based on the type of lens that best fits your prescription. Most lenses are permanent and cannot be altered in strength later. However, Kirk Eye Center is pleased to offer the Light Adjustable Lens by RxSight®, an advanced lens that provides patients with their most precise and clear vision.
After the Light Adjustable Lens is implanted during surgery, your lens will be adjusted to your desired vision specifications during a few in-office sessions.
How Does the Light Adjustable Lens Work?
Like standard IOLs, the Light Adjustable Lens is implanted into your eye during surgery. The only difference is that the lens is made of a special photosensitive silicone that allows it to be adjusted in response to light.
After your eyes heal following cataract surgery, you will return to Kirk Eye Center to undergo a series of short, routine UV light treatments to customize your vision. Your doctor will use a light-based delivery device to direct a low-intensity UV light beam onto your eye to alter the shape of your lens.
This takes about 90 seconds per eye. You will have the ability to preview your new eyesight until it meets your desired vision and lifestyle goals.

What to Expect with the Light Adjustable Lens
After your Light Adjustable Lens is implanted during cataract surgery, your eyes will be extremely sensitive to light. We will provide you with special UV protective glasses to wear at all times following surgery until 24 hours after the completion of your last light session.
The glasses must be worn both indoors and outdoors, although they may be removed when sleeping or showering. Most patients require 2–4 ultraviolet light sessions over 1–2 weeks to achieve their vision goals. Following this, you can expect to enjoy your new, clearer vision.
